Since May 1832, when the flag with the German national colours of black, red and gold first fluttered on the Kastanienberg near Neustadt, the Hambacher Schloss has come to stand for the cradle of German democracy. The new permanent exhibition entitled Hinauf, hinauf zum Schloss! (Up and onwards to the castle!) presents a very vivid display of the events around the Hambacher Festival of 1832 with plenty of links to the present day.
You can visit the Hambacher Schloss and the Hinauf, hinauf zum Schloss! Exhibition all the year round daily from 10.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. (November – March 11.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.).
Guided tours focusing on the history of the castle and the history of democracy and a tour of the exhibition take place all year round daily starting at 11.00 a.m., 12.00 noon, 2.00 p.m. 3.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. (November – March 11.00 a.m., 12.00 noon, 2.00 p.m.).
Group and theme tours plus workshops for students and adults, visits to the tower (120 steps) and special features for children such as birthday celebrations, special guided tours and workshops can be arranged at any time including outside opening hours by contacting

Variety is once again the key note of the over 30 public events scheduled for 2011: the range spans children’s theatre to classical concerts, stage plays and cabaret to political debates.
There are breathtaking views from the Panorama Terrasse, the Roof Terrace and through the tall windows in Restaurant 1832 that was planned by the famous Swiss architect Max Dudler.
The Restaurant is open all the year round daily from 11.00 a.m. – 10.00 p.m.
From 11.00 a.m. on you can treat yourself to our regional country cooking (Stuffed Pig’s Stomach from the Palatinate, fresh salads, delicious cakes, daily changing specialities, and much more).
